BP Oil Spill Affects Louisiana Seafood and Much More

The Gulf Coast region has been through so much the past five years and now the BP Oill Spill is affecting so many lives. 11 Men lost their lives on the oil rig and families are grieving their loved ones. The seafood industry of Louisiana and the State bird, the brown pelican, are in jeopardy. Some are wondering how much more the hard working men and women of the State of Louisiana and the entire Gulf Coast region can take. Some are wondering........why us again?

After Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, the entire country saw the resiliency of the Gulf Coast. The people are strong willed, hard working, and don't give up the land they cherish. Many in the area were just starting over emotionally and financially. But as the five year anniversary of the hurricane was nearing, another disaster has affected the people and the way of life as we know it.

As a native of New Orleans I grew up with the seafood of Louisiana. I could probably peel a crab, a crawfish, and a shrimp by the age of 5. I fell in love with oysters on the half shell and fried oyster po-boys not long after that. As most of us, the recent events made me realize how much we take for granted. Not only are we spoiled to walk into any restaurant in town to eat the best seafood around, but deep down I believed we proved the test already. We had been through hell and back and came out on the other end. Knocked down, but not knocked out.

And here we are again, men worrying how they will feed their families. Seafood and our State bird at risk. Our wetlands and coast are in peril. One of the worst facets to the BP oil spill is, its not going away any time soon. The oysters are becoming more and more scarce. The pictures of the oily pelicans are on the news daily. Families and businesses are wondering how they will make it. Sometimes the test seems to great, too much to endure. The anger and frustration most of us feel would make some want to give up.

But we aren't built that way.

We must all take a step back and realize, this is our time to step up to the plate to help fight for what is ours. To take pride in what we hold dear and find a way to get through this together. We should all do what we can to help.

The BP oill spill will not take the spirit of the people of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. On August 29, 2005 a girl with a name we will never forget blew in here and she thought she could take it away and win. But she lost.........and so will BP.

Canvas Art with a Fleur de Lis Theme

We hope everyone had a great holiday season! As we are catching our breath after a busy holiday time, we want to introduce to you our new canvas art with a fleur de lis theme.

We have had the privilege of working with a new artist who has been doing some wonderful and unique canvas art exclusively for our store. Slidell artist Kristin Kahoe is creating quite a buzz with her original and unique fleur de lis paintings. Kristin's artistic and unique style is displayed beautifully in every piece of canvas art she paints.

One of our customer favorites is her tribute to our New Orleans Saints with her fleur de lis black and gold painting. A fabulous black fleur de lis sitting against the gold background makes a gorgeous contrast of two of New Orleans' favorite colors. Kristin's use of the gold highlights in the fleur de lis add something special to this piece of canvas art. What a great way to show your love for the historic symbol.
